The Mustang in the Parking Lot

I’ll be the first to admit I’m not much of a car guy. Give me a car that’s reasonably reliable and safe, and I’m good. Still, I’m not beyond noticing a nice car what it crosses my path. One such car for me has always been the Ford Mustang. I don’t know what it is about the car but I love it. To me it’s a work of art on wheels. So when I came across one in a parking lot at Dixie State University (all the way back in 2009), my eyes were immediately drawn to it. Everything else faded into obscurity. Nothing came close to the brilliant shine the car gave off.

The encounter with the Mustang made me think of the people who stand out in the crowd. There is just something charismatic and special about them that sucks us in. As prone as I am to religious musings, I also equated this with people who tend to have a “special spirit” about them, if you will. We've all met or at least heard about someone like this. They’re the people who can outshine those around them because they strive to lead a Christ-centered life and live in a manner that promotes that way of life. These are the people the Apostle Paul described as examples of the believers (1 Timothy 4:12).

Sadly, we make fun of these people sometimes. The brightness they give off hurts our eyes so we attempt to dim them down. Ironically, how many of us Pintos secretly wish we were on the same level as the Mustangs we mock?
